Won’t comment on the actual post as it would be irrelevant and kind of disrespectful to add it there, but I really dislike the terms “transmasculine” and “transfeminine”. Not just because (trans) men don’t have to be masculine and (trans) women don’t have to be feminine, but moreso because it sounds like you don’t really accept their gender. They’re not really male, they’re merely masculine, shoving trans men in the same category as masculine women. What a load of shit. They’re trans men.

Transmasculine and transfeminine are identities. They encompass nonbinary and binary genders, and it’s also great for people who are questioning. For a while I was just like ‘idk what the fuck I am but I know I’m definitely transmasculine. It’s not a replacement word for trans male, it’s an umbrella term that happens to include trans male

Oh, okay. So utter tumblr bullshit then.

That explanation still doesn’t make it ok because you’re still including trans men under “transmasculine” as a category. It implies that, as a trans man, my transition is simply on the far end of a spectrum of masculinity. I am insulted by that because masculinity is NOT what I am transitioning towards. I am transitioning to male, NOT to the “masculine” end of a gender expression spectrum. Binary trans people are not the north and south poles of masculinity and femininity.

But… well… correct me if I’m wrong, since I’m not trans, but I think “transmasculine” doesn’t relate to gender expression, but rather to gender identity? I mean, if you identify as male, you also identify as masculine, right? It’s not like cis guys who like feminine stuff are any less masculine in their identity. Like, idk, it seems logical to me.
