man you know what I want? a superhero series where they have powers that 100% contradict their personalities. a fishermans daughter who lives by the sea, swims every day, learns that she can control fire. a boy who’s mortified of heights but realizes he can use antigravity and hates it. someone who was bitten by a dog as a child, suffers extreme fear around animals, can now communicate with them. they’re all disgusted by their powers.
yes good but what about the ~character development~ as they learn to cope with their powers and overcome their fears
the pyrokinetic swimmer wading out into the ocean armed with waterproof matches to practice so nothing goes wrong, building her confidence with the sea as her safety net, being so proud when she figures out how to heat the air just enough that she dries off instantly after swimming
the boy slowly overcoming his fear of heights, realizing that he can catch himself if he ever falls, standing swaying on top of playground sets and closing his eyes as he tries to safely hover down (and not fall on his face again)
the girl’s terror lessening as the previously terrifying cacophony of the dogs at the park turns into a chorus of “ball! ball! throw me the ball!” “it’s me! I’m the good boy!” and “squirrel!!!” and learning to communicate back, have them listen to her, learning how to calm down a dog who’s overexcited to the point of biting, discovering that the scary dog down the street is just home alone a lot and lonely, staring her fear in the face and learning its secrets
because being disgusted with their powers is interesting, but I want to see people learning to love even the scary and contradictory parts of themselves
Okay guys crazy thought but what if there’s some epic Skull vs Aether thing where, in needed villain dialogue, Lusamine insults family, saying things like her relatives, Lillie and Gladion, mean nothing, and neither do the Pokémon she calls her children.
And Team Skull (including Guzma and Plumeria) is angry. Family means the world and more to them. They all call each other sis and bro. So when they hear Lusamine say that, they are done. First, they defend Lillie and Gladion, then the Pokémon Lusamine insulted.. They engage in an epic battle, Skull grunts all battling Aether scientists. In single, double, and triple battle.
By the end, Hau, Lillie, Gladion, the Protagonist, Kukui, all of Team Skull, are all working together to put an end to the Aether Foundation.
Ice breaks under the character but they’re saved and there are blankets and hot chocolate and warmth.
The character can’t afford to pay for their utilities at the moment, and they’re worried they may end up with heat in winter, but their landlord/landlady is sympathetic and even invites them for a dinner.
The character slips on ice and injures themselves, but someone helps them and it’s a start of a friendship or romance.
The character can’t return home because of the weather, but they find new friends thanks to that.
The character decides to visit someone despite the snow and cold, and the journey is dangerous, but it’s worth it in the end.
The character finds outside an animal too small to survive the winter and they decide to help.
The pipes in the character’s house freeze and break and an unlikely person offers help.
The character gets lost in a snow storm but stumble upon a pleasant place to hide from the weather.
The character ends up without a place to stay in winter, but someone helps.
There’s no snow and the character is upset, but someone helps and creates a winter wonderland for them.
ok but like when did self-sacrifice become synonymous with death? writers seem to have forgotten that people can make personal sacrifices for the greater good without giving their lives. plots about self-sacrifice and selflessness don’t always have to end in death. suffering doesn’t have to be mourning. you can create drama and emotional depth on your show without killing everyone. learn to explore the meaning of living rather than dying
Death. Is. NOT. The. Only. Way. To. Advance. The. Narrative.
Fun things to sacrifice for your loved ones in your free time that don’t include death and actually set up for a whole new season of high level drama:
– humanity (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) – memories (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) – love for that special someone (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) – emotions (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) – rank/position/ – yourself/your brain/your skills (give yourself over to bad guys and become their brainwashed agent so your loved ones live) – years of bloody ruthless traditions to make way for peace (hi lexa and fuck jroth tbh) – freedom (includes that of speech/mind/will) – your grandpa’s fortune – hell even material possessions have that girl sacrifice her goddamn house so they can pay off her gf’s student loans or whatever juST STOP KILLING CHARACTERS TO FURTHER YOUR PLOT
Person A owns a flower shop and person B comes storming in one day, slaps 20 bucks on the counter and says “How do I passive-aggressively say fuck you in flower?”
Omfg
MY TIME HAS COME
so you’d need a bouquet of geraniums (stupidity), foxglove (insincerity), meadowsweet (uselessness), yellow carnations (you have disappointed me), and orange lilies (hatred). it would be quite striking! and full of loathing.
im no Florist but I thought I’d try my hand at such a beautiful gift of absolute loathing
You know what I want? Culture clashes between the pokemon regions.
Someone from Unova travels to Kanto/Johto wearing a t-shirt with a big R on the chest. They get dirty looks for it and have no idea what’s going on.
A Kalosian meets someone from Sinnoh and keeps standing too close to them. The Sinnoh native keeps stepping back uncomfortably, but the Kalosian keeps stepping closer.
Someone from Johto goes to Unova and ????EVERYTHING IS SO BIG=????
A Hoennian meets up with a Kalosian and the Kalosian goes for cheek kisses while the Hoennian goes for a gentle head butt.
people from johto visiting sinnoh get pulled aside by police because they don’t know that keeping your pokemon outside its pokeball outside of amity square is illegal
trainers from kanto and johto wondering why the game corner doesn’t give out pokemon as prizes
kanto trainers expecting to be given a bunch of rocks for playing in the sinnoh safari zone and instead finding out that you’re supposed to throw mud at pokemon
“what the fuck are you doing” “i’m slathering honey all over this tree to attract wild pokemon to it” “why don’t you just fucking headbutt it you dumb shit” “e-excuse me what”
a lot of discourse on the proper way to plant berries (“just plant them in the ground it’s not difficult” “yes okay but have you heard of berry pots” “do you just plant them wherever? why would you do that just get your own berry orchard” “I CAN ONLY PLANT BERRIES IN MY DREAMS”)
kalos trainers getting really confused when they take their clefairy to kanto and it’s getting its ass handed to it by fighting-types
unova/kalos trainers getting really fucking sick of foreigners trying to eat their vanillite
Hoennites going to Sinnoh and not realizing how COLD it is and they’re freezing the whole time but everyone else is just sorta used to it
Conversely, Sinnohians going to Hoenn and not realizing how hot it is and they don’t have any warm-weather gear so they’re sweltering the whole time
Cyclists from Kanto Johto Hoenn and Sinnoh wondering where the hell Cycling Road is. Where is it.
A Hoennite bragging that someone from Rustboro city found out how to resurrect Pokemon, only to be shot down by a Kantoian who says that some guy on Cinnabar Island figured out how to do it YEARS ago
People from Unova and Hoenn coming to Kanto and Johto and getting really really frustrated because HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO MOVE THIS SNORLAX and thinking the locals are pulling their leg when they tell them to play the Pokeflute for it.
Johtoians having to patiently explain to foreigners that slowpoketails aren’t a delicacy, but are, in fact, VERY illegal.
People from most regions getting really intimidated by Goldenrod City and how weird and dirty some of the city is, but Unovans feel right at home.
A superhero tries to get himself classified as a natural disaster so people can get refunded by their insurance company when he destroys their home during a fight.
they are a witch’s two familars and have never gotten along, but one day the witch disappears and so they must go on a cross-country search in order to bring her home. along the way, the cat learns to loosen up while the crow gains worldly experience, and they both become better friends
